About UTD

Whether the building business runs in your family or if you enjoy watching Ax Men, there is something about lumber that sticks with you. We see it all the time in our customers…family businesses that are carried on to third and fourth generations.

During high school, working lumber with his dad was a way for Chad Epperson to make some extra cash. After living in Texas with the ARMY, Chad returned to Alabama and the lumber business in 1990 to manage the sales and operations for a local company that branched off to develop United Treating & Distribution, LLC, in 2006.  During that first year, UTD grew to a team of 14 employees with more than 100 customers.

Today, UTD has 70 team members with more than 450 customers in 18 states.  Our customer range is very broad.  We work with retail lumber yards, independent building material dealers, portable barn builders, decking pros, fencing pros, metal manufacturers, trailer manufacturers, retaining wall companies, specialized industrial suppliers and contracting groups.  

Lumber buying is done by Chad, Stacy, and Ken (70+ years of combined experience and a network of industry friends that can make the impossible somehow happen).  As a Christian owned company, we strive to do what we say we will do and expand the business to the degree that the Lord brings us opportunities and enthusiastic people.

  • Our teams inspect every pack of lumber coming in and going out.  We hand write the mill number on every pack and give each one a grade (think of a lumber report card that tells us exactly who is cutting the best pine available that month).
  • We partner with companies that are smarter than we are.  Wolmanized® keeps our treatment technologies and equipment current and efficient.  SPIB spends time with our quality control team each month to make sure our daily samples are above industry standards.
